I've been using the original, ratchet-style retainers that came with my Volcano for over the past twelve years. I had to develop a special protocol for (the difficulty of) making up new bags (hint: toilet paper roll internal tube). It works(ed) well, but was nonetheless, still somewhat a pain; the ratchet retainer definitely being a contributive factor. I'd seen the new type of retainer on the Web, but was waiting to try them, until I needed to buy additional parts for the Volcano. I'm hearing impaired, and wear headphones a lot, to compensate. While watching a movie on the computer, I "forgot" the medium holder/bag assy on the top of the Volcano. As a result, once I noticed... the holder was so HOT I almost dropped it on the floor. Two different times, this happened to result in the retainer flex-tabs on the sides of the bag holder base weakening enough that getting them to hold in place atop the medium holder became a hassle. Also affected the retention of the mouthpiece in place. Years, earlier, I'd already broken one of the tabs off of one of my other bag base assy's (I originally bought three with the Volcano); by dropping it on the floor. Soo... I recently bought three more bag assy 'bodies' (less the metal internals), and, at the same time, opted to purchase three of these new-style, slip-on retainer rings and I MUST say... these slip-on retainers ARE, indeed, the 'cat's meow'!! Couldn't be simpler, easier, or any quicker to apply. HIGHLY recommended!!! *** I also must compliment/recommend Planet of the Vapes. Great service, good prices, and thoroughly excellent during-and-after-purchase e-mail comm (including tracking links). My order was VERY expeditiously handled, throughout. *** The new bodies and rings all work super, and I am now, once again, a very happy vaper!!

Good to have an extra, have only had one break since the rings came out(previously clunky clamps) but I was glad I did when it did break. Cheap enough to have one and not need and you will be ****** when you don't have one for 3 days because you're to cheap
