Vapor from the PAX Flow is the strongest we’ve experienced from a PAX vape. It’s dense with a soft, effortless touch that serves up plenty of flavor on the low end and thick clouds on the high end.

Vapor is ready from the moment it vibrates, but it won’t knock your socks off. It’s consistent from hit to hit, but never really reaches that punchy oomph. Quite the opposite, actually. Vapor stays soft and soothing, never scratchy or choky. It’s more of a pleasant experience than a rush.

The Venty, however, can do both. Vapor is stronger and more consistent, with dense, fluffy clouds and plenty of flavor. Take a small sip, and you’re met with a generous mouthful. Take a long inhale, and it keeps up with billowing clouds that’ll make you a little woozy.

Both have their place when it comes to vapor. The Flow nails the softer, more relaxed experience, but the Venty is the only one that can comfortably fill both roles.

Airflow: Venty is best in class

Airflow deserved a mention because both represent their brands’ very best. The Flow has the most open airflow we’ve ever seen in a PAX. It’s not the most open we’ve ever experienced, but it’s enough to compete with high-end units like the Mighty+. It’s a huge step forward for PAX and really maximizes what Flow can offer.

The only problem is that it’s up against the Venty’s best-in-class adjustable airflow. Crank it wide open, and big draws feel more like you’re breathing vapor than sucking it through a vape. Dial it back when you want something slower and more controlled, or find your sweet spot somewhere in between. At its widest, airflow is nearly double that of the Mighty+ and easily one of the Venty’s best features. It’s one of those things that makes it hard to go back to anything else once you’ve used it.

Heat settings & controls: Simple vs. customizable

Controls differ significantly between the two, and it comes down to personal preference and use case.

Click the PAX Flow once, then cycle through 5 preset session settings ranging from light and flavorful (356°F/180°C) to dense and milky (437°F/225°C). Everything, including battery life, is communicated with four LED light petals with haptic feedback to let you know when your session is ready.

Pick up the Venty and dial in exact temperatures with a single power button and two up/down control buttons. Set your go-to temperature once, and it’ll heat to that every time you turn it on. It’s more hands-on and precise, but can be as simple as click-and-go. Temp-stepping is also easy. Give the power button a quick double-press, and it’ll bump the temp up by 27°F. Double-click again, and it bumps it to the max before it settles back down to your original temperature.

Which one heats up faster?

Sessions with the Venty are ready to go in about 20 seconds, while the PAX Flow takes about 35 seconds. Both are quick enough for everyday use, but the Venty gets you into a session sooner.

Oven size: Flow holds more

The PAX Flow has a larger oven at up to 0.3g. Pack it full, and there’s plenty there for a long, extended session. The Venty holds a little less at around 0.25g, but it makes excellent use of what’s there with strong, even extractions from start to finish.

Battery life: Venty lasts longer

This is one of the biggest gaps between the two. The PAX Flow gets around four sessions per charge. That might be enough if you only pull it out once or twice at night, but use it throughout the day, and that battery disappears before the day is up. You’ll want the charger handy at all times.

The Venty lasts much longer, with around 14 sessions per charge. Vape throughout the day, share a few sessions with friends, or take it out with you, and there’s usually enough juice to make it to the end.

Charging: Both USB-C, no passthrough

Both charge over USB-C, but the Flow is slightly faster. It reached 50% in just 18 minutes in our tests and finished a full charge in under 37 minutes. That quick turnaround helps take some of the sting out of its short battery life.

The Venty takes a little longer, but pair it with the optional Supercharger and go from empty to full in around 45 minutes.

Neither supports passthrough charging, so you’ll have to put the session on hold once they’re plugged in. You’ll just find yourself doing that a lot more often with the Flow.

Build quality & portability

PAX vapes are some of my personal favorites strictly for their style and pocketability. Slip the PAX Flow into your pocket, small bag, or purse without weighing yourself down, and pull it out in a crowded environment without drawing much attention. It weighs nearly half as much as the Venty, with a sleek matte finish that looks great but may be a little more prone to visible dings and scratches. It doesn’t immediately present itself as a vape. It looks more like a stylish accessory that just happens to vape your herbs.

The Venty is bigger, heavier, and much less discreet, with a more industrial build, prominent mouthpiece, and bright screen. It’s not trying to win any style awards. It’s likely you won’t slip it into your jeans pocket, but it’s slim enough to carry around in baggier pockets, a small bag, or a larger purse.

The Flow gets HOT

We don’t usually talk about how a vape feels in your hand during a session, but it’s worth mentioning here. The Flow gets hot with use, especially as you climb into the higher Heat Modes. Run a few sessions back-to-back, and the heat becomes hard to ignore, which is why we include the silicone sleeve to help keep things more comfortable.

The Venty doesn’t have this problem. Even as the session heats up, the body stays comfortable to hold, and the heat never becomes something you have to think about.

Accessories: PAX Flow is limited

The Flow keeps its accessory setup fairly simple. Cleaning and maintenance: PAX Flow wins

The Flow is one of the easiest vapes to clean. Pop off the oven door, and everything you need is right there. Wipe down the oven, vapor path, and door, swap the oven screen when needed, and you’re basically done. There’s very little to take apart and no cooling unit to disassemble.

The Venty takes more work. You’ll want to brush out the oven and screen regularly, and once the cooling unit gets dirty, you’ll need to remove it, split it into two halves, and clean each piece with isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs.

If you hate taking your vape apart for a deep clean, the Flow turns it into a quick wipe-down instead of a project.

Price: Venty gives you more for your money

The PAX Flow comes in at $275, while the Venty is currently on sale for $381. That’s a $106 difference, and the Flow makes a strong case if pocketability, style, and simplicity are at the top of your list.

But stretch the budget for the Venty, and that extra $106 buys you a lot. Vapor is stronger, airflow is more open and adjustable, battery life lasts longer, and there’s far more room to customize the experience.

The Flow saves you some money and gives you the sleeker, more portable package, but at these prices, the Venty gives you a lot more vape for the extra $106.
