Version 3

As of January 2019, the XMAX Starry is on its third version. The updated model now includes haptic feedback to let you know when it reaches vaping temperature, an improved mouthpiece, and more. Check out the full breakdown of these changes over on our blog post announcing the X MAX Starry Version 3.

Who's the XMAX Starry for?

The XMAX Starry is for anyone looking for a quality portable vaporizer at a great price. Full digital control, a pocketable size, swappable battery, haptic feedback, a magnetic, zirconia mouthpiece and an anodized aluminum body. The Starry delivers features that we don’t see in vaporizers at twice the price.

POTV limited edition

We're big fans of the Starry and teamed up with XMAX to re-work the style. All black with discreet CNC'd logos. The only difference is the styling.

Removable battery

The Starry vaporizer is powered by a single 18650 battery (included) that is removable so you can just swap it out and keep going all day, but you might not rush out to buy a spare since we got 80 minutes of run time off a single charge. You can’t ask for much more than great battery life and the option to swap in a fresh battery when needed!  And we love removable batteries because you can just swap in a new one versus having to send your vaporizer in for warranty if your battery ever dies.

Well made & pocketable

Tired of the sea of plastic shell vapes on the market at this price point? This is where the Starry really stands apart with its anodized aluminum body, magnetic lid enclosure and ceramic zirconia mouthpiece. The size is right, too, coming in at just a smidge bigger than the PAX 3.

Fast heat-up time

The Starry gets up to 390° F in just 25 seconds and to top temp in 35 seconds, perfect for a quick, discreet session.

Good vapor

XMAX has been producing quality vaporizers for the budget vape market for a while now and the Starry sticks to the script with a standard ceramic conduction oven that tastes good and works fast.  Your herbs and vapor touch nothing but ceramic and stainless steel.

Intuitive controls

The Starry’s controls are simple and make sense with three buttons to control on/off, temperature, session timer and Celsius/Fahrenheit display. Turning it on is as simple as holding the power button in for three seconds. Plus, the Starry will buzz gently to let you know when it reaches vaping temperature.

Easy to load. Cool mouthpiece.

Loading is easy with its beveled oven ring and you won’t worry about losing the mouthpiece since it can magnetically stick to the side when open. The ceramic zirconia mouthpiece is strong and super smooth for a comfortable feel that preserves taste.

Fantastic value

There are a number of vapes in this price range, but the Starry really stands out. Featuring a pocketable size, great build quality, removable batteries, and a magnetic zirconia mouthpiece it has features that you won’t find in some of our favorite vapes at more than twice the price. It really is one of the best values in the vape market!

A note on cleaning

Only use a soft q-tip soaked in alcohol to clean the oven. The ceramic oven will never look as good as it did when it was brand new. Please just remove any resin buildup but don't try to remove the stains as this could damage the ceramic oven and void your warranty. The mouthpiece of the Starry should only be cleaned with warm water and mild dishwashing detergent.

Warranty

The Starry vaporizer has a 1-year warranty when purchased from Planet of the Vapes and, as with all vaporizers purchased from us, you are also covered by our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

I broke it, but it was still fantastic

I previously owned a dynavap, this was my upgrade and I cannot recommend it enough! It's very convenient, easy to use, decent flavor and good vapor depending on how dry your bud is. However there are negatives, it is a massive pain to clean, I think that may be the tradeoff for such a relatively cheap device. The magnetic lid is a terrible idea, I have on multiple occasions accidentally lifted the lid by softly bumping it and have dumped material by accident and lost heat. The zirconium mouthpiece is alright, the retainer clip inside the lid that holds it in is a bad design, feels like I'll break either the clip, the lid or the mouthpiece every time I remove it to do a full cleaning, it's not made for longevity. I have scraped the anodized aluminum prying the clip out multiple times which is worth noting as well. The ceramic insert of the mouthpiece takes a surprising amount of force to rip out of the lid, and the little screen meshes are difficult to replace without mangling them. Also related, good luck cleaning corner to corner in the ceramic oven and DON'T SCRUB TOO HARD. I unfortunately broke it just now while cleaning, I was trying to scrub off some residue on the end of the oval ceramic oven and ended up cracking it which caused a sensor failure, and the only function the device has now is to charge 18650 batteries for my flashlight. As far as as usage, the device offers temps in either celsius or fahrenheit, 5 or 10 minute timed sessions, very fast warm-up, battery life leaves a little to be desired, however it can sustain around 4 to 6 sessions of 5 minutes at around 380-395f which is fine for me but may not be for you. 18650 batteries are cheap and you can swap em out in a second if you find you need more juice. The device is fairly durable, I've dropped it on pavement a couple times, and aside from a dent or two on the aluminum body, it shrugged them off no problem. In summary, as I said, I would absolutely recommend this device, cleaning it sucks and feels like you may break something every time, function is pretty great especially for the price. I personally am not buying a new one of this model, I am however going to try to find a different vape of a similar form factor that is easier to clean.

Xmax review

Not very good , the vape amount is minimal. You don’t feel like you are inhaling much. Very disappointed.

Planet Of The Vapes

Hi Behzad, I'm going to send you out some user tips. Pay particular attention to your draw technique. Very quick, short, cigar-like puffs works best with this vape. This inhalation technique is super important so as not to allow the incoming cool air to overcome the heat being provided by the heater. All vapes have their own unique learning curves, and your new (insert vape here) is no different in this regard. With a bit of experimentation with your grind consistency, pack, temp settings and draw technique, you should be able to find the sweet spot that is right for YOU which very well may be different for someone else. Please read through these tips and get back to me here as to how things are going: https://www.planetofthevapes.com/pages/contact-us Tips: Grind your herbs down to a fairly fine grind and pack the oven full with a gentle tamp on the top of the load. Turn the unit on to around 415F and wait for it to come up to temp. Then let it heat soak for about 20 seconds before taking your first hit. Take short, cigar puffs, or long and slow draws. This draw technique is super important. The first hit may be a bit wispy but the second hit should be stronger. This should get you on the fast track to success with this vape and you can tweak your technique from there. There are a lot of variables that go into the vaporizing experience, and the most important one is the quality of your herbs. I can't be of any help in assessing the quality of yours, but inferior herbs have fewer compounds on the surface and don't vape as well. Even with a very fine grind, cheap herbs usually make the experience kind of blah. So make sure you have high quality herbs and we can get to work on technique! After that, you want to use a full, tamped down pack. It doesn't need to be like a brick in there, but never loose. And you will want it full. If you have good herbs you should see some decent vapor on the first puff and more on successive puffs. The most common mistakes people make with a vape like this is to either pack it less than full, pack it loosely, not giving it a 20 second heat soak, and/or sucking too hard. Any one of these three things can kill the vapor production. That's all there is to it. From there you can adjust your grind, pack and temperature to your preference, but this is a good place to baseline from. Awaiting your reply Larry

Love it!

It's the first handheld I've tried and I love it. I had the first one for 9 months and had a problem with it and it was still under warranty and was replaced quickly. The customer service is 5 star!!
